Unpredictable weather or unstable ground can bring construction sites to a standstill and cause lasting damage to event venues. A crane getting bogged down, a lawn damaged after a festival, or the restoration of a site all generate significant hidden costs.
Recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) ground protection mats turn this constraint into a solution. They have become essential equipment on construction sites.
They make it possible to create safe and stable access roads, regardless of ground conditions. Faster to install and reusable, ground protection mats offer a cost-effective alternative to gravel and plywood sheets for stabilizing site access and preventing vehicles from becoming stuck.

Ground Protection Mats: Temporary Roads, Soil Protection, and Vehicle Support on Challenging Terrain
Ground protection mats provide an effective solution for creating temporary access routes, protecting surfaces, and preventing machinery from getting stuck on difficult terrain. Designed to ensure safe vehicle and equipment circulation, they help maintain site accessibility while minimizing surface damage.
Used on construction sites, temporary parking areas, festivals, parks, and access roads, ground protection mats offer exceptional versatility. They quickly create stable traffic lanes suitable for construction machinery, utility vehicles, and pedestrian use.
These mats can be installed on a wide range of surfaces: mud, sand, grass, gravel, snow, or uneven terrain. Their design helps reduce the risk of vehicles getting bogged down, rutting, or causing surface damage, making them particularly suitable for unstable or sensitive environments.
Made from recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ground protection mats combine light weight, strength, and durability. Their low weight makes transport, handling, and installation easier, without the need for heavy lifting equipment.
This feature allows for the rapid deployment of temporary access routes, even in hard-to-reach areas.
CM ground protection mats can be connected using optional single or double fasteners, which are essential for use on soft or loose ground.
Common questions – Ground Protection Mats
What maximum load can an HDPE ground protection mat actually support?
Load capacity depends on three factors: mat thickness (10–15 mm), the bearing capacity of the underlying soil, and the contact area of the machinery. On stabilized ground, our standard models can support between 20 and 80 tonnes.
Are the mats slippery for pedestrians in wet conditions?
No. The top surface features a non-slip texture that channels water away and maintains traction even in rain, significantly reducing the risk of slips when personnel walk across mixed-use zones.
Can the mats be used for several years without losing performance?
Absolutely. HDPE is highly impact- and wear-resistant, rot-proof, and requires no maintenance. Unlike plywood mats, they remain durable over time without losing their properties.
It is recommended, however, to remove excess soil and occasionally clean the mats with a pressure washer to remove mud and maintain optimal anti-slip performance.
How do I calculate the number of mats needed for my project?
Start by determining the linear meters of access route required to transport machinery to the site or work area.
Consider the potential maneuvers of vehicles and provide enough width for them to turn around safely. In such cases, it is strongly recommended to connect the mats using our fastener systems.
For storage areas, calculate the required length and width in linear meters. Contact us with your site plans for an optimized layout.

Questions & Answers
What is the maximum capacity per plate?
The maximum capacity is 120T. It may differ depending on the model
Are there several sizes?
Yes, depending on the model, several sizes are available. See technical data sheet
What is the difference between tread plates and smooth surfaces?
The tread plate is recommended for loose ground (outdoor) for better grip. The smooth surface is recommended for loose outdoor surfaces such as asphalt (but can also be used indoors).
On what type of surface can I use the rolling plates?
Construction equipment can be used on loose ground (earthy, muddy) and loose ground (asphalt, grass, gravel, etc.).
Is it possible to connect the plates together?
On some models, attachments are available as an option for connecting two to four plates.
